Maidenhead Community Watch Association makes call for more volunteers to join

An independent community watch association in Maidenhead is keen to find more volunteers to help carry out home security assessments.

Maidenhead Community Watch Association (MCWA) was formed in December 2022 and properly launched in July last year after receiving funding from The Prince Philip Trust Fund, the Thames Valley Police Local Policing Area (LPA) for Windsor and Maidenhead, Maidenhead Lions, and the Louis Baylis Trust.

The association strives to help make the area a ‘safer and more pleasant place’ to live, with a particular focus on supporting elderly and vulnerable residents.

It is open to all residents and organisations in the Maidenhead area.

As part of its work to support the community, the association offers free home security assessments to help people boost the security of their homes.

During the assessment, a trained volunteer will assess the security of the property for any potential vulnerabilities and will then make recommendations on how to improve security and safety.

The association provides a range of security items for free including dummy CCTV cameras, fake TVs, exterior motion sensor lights, timer switches, personal alarms, window shock alarms, door chains and door spy holes and can help with fittings where needed, also free of charge.

Since its official launch, the association’s small team of volunteers have completed more than 60 home security assessments.

Last year, the association received £1,890 from the Community Fund by the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley and was presented with the cheque during a presentation event in Milton Keynes, hosted by Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley, Matthew Barber, and Thames Valley Police chief constable Jason Hogg.

The money has provided a further financial boost to help the team obtain more security items.
