Hello Susan,

My name is Emma Carroll and I am a senior in high school. We read your book “My Stolen Son” in English class and I really enjoyed reading it.
Your story is incredibly saddening and I cannot imagine the pain and heartache that you went through for years. Everyone in my class agrees that you wrote a beautiful story. It leaves a good message for teenagers these days to stay safe and away from all things troubling. There are many people in the world that wouldn’t think twice before hanging out with people like Jesse James Hollywood and I am so glad you shed some light on how horrible people can be.
I sincerely thank you for sharing your story with me and thousands of other people. We all appreciate your words and emotions being used to spread awareness.

I wish you a life of love and healing,
Emma Carroll

Dear Susan,

I believe this book was very good. It has a lot of morals and is definitely an eye opener to how bad things can really happen to people close to you. I loved how this book was written in detail about everything that happened and specifically what happened at the trial. It lets everyone know what\'s happening during the whole process of all of it. I would love for other people to read and learn about this traumatic thing that has happened to a young boy who had so much potential to have a great life. I learned that many bad things can happen if you don\'t take the small opportunities you have. You have to make sure that you live your life to the fullest because it can\'t end faster than you think. Rest high nick. Susan, always keep your head up. You have many things to come in life.

Dear Susan Markowitz,
My name is Jessie Monterroso, First and foremost I would like to offer my condolences on the tragic loss you went through. I know it was a while ago but I can only imagine it feels like it was just yesterday. We recently read your book My Stolen Son in my language arts class. Your book has not only taught me to value my family and not take it for granted, but it also taught me how important it is to tell the authorities when someone is in danger no matter at what cost. Within the first few chapters I was instantly hooked, as I was reading I could feel the pain and the emotions you went through although I could’ve never felt the real pain you went through. I can only sympathize with you and the tragic loss you and your family went through. As I read your book I could tell Nick was a sweet and wonderful person to be around. In my overall opinion you did a wonderful job telling yours and your son\'s story, you did a beautiful job describing Nick the way you knew him to be. I know my words aren’t much but I do hope you accept this letter and think of all the people you’ve touched with reading your bo

Dear Susan Markowitz,
I
I read your book My Stolen Son in my true crime language arts class. As a
teenager reading about this case, it fills me with so much sadness and frustration. I think
it is so disappointing that there are people in this world who would do such a horrible
thing. I can see that you are a very strong woman, even when you shouldn\'t have had to
be. You wrote this book beautifully and it told the story in such a unique and intriguing
way. This book taught me a lot of lessons, especially to report any shady activity like this
no matter the case. If I believe someone\'s life is in danger I will go to the police
immediately, not that I wouldn\'t have before but this book taught me the importance of
timing in cases like this. I feel there is a lot that could\'ve been done to prevent Nick\'s
death. The cops shouldn\'t have put it off as him running away, those girls should have
said something. Nick just should have never been taken. Although it is not healthy to
dwell on the what ifs, I think it is important to highlight these parts of the case and learn
from them in future cases like this. Everyone should take Nick\'s case as a lesson to take
things a little more serious and report them.

Hello Susan, my name is Kruzz Deleon-Paramo and in my English class we are reading your book and as a teenager, it has taught me to not take my mother and family for granted. I send my condolences to you because no parent should ever lose their child the way you did. I enjoyed reading your book part of the class because we all got to give our input and thoughts on what was going on in the story. The way you explained everything, notably Nick, was beautiful. Each chapter along the way I felt like I was with you the entire way, although I can never truly feel the pain you were caused. The overall moral lesson of the story is to not take things for granted, especially your family. I want you to know that you are so strong and brave for everything you went through; you inspire me.

Sending you love & light, Kruzz

Dear Susan Markowitz,

My name is Livi Kellogg, I am 17 years old and I go to White Bear Lake Area Learning Center. We are doing a true crime unit at school and we have been reading your book. I enjoyed reading your book in class. I found the case very interesting and was really into the case. From reading my stolen son what I took away from the story is that your actions have consequences. I was completely appalled when reading further we discovered what had happened to Nick. I am sending my condolences, no child should have ever experienced this tragedy. It made me sick how three grown men could cause so much devastation Overall I learned that one moment can impact an entire lifetime, I think everyone involved was impacted in some way. Although I could never imagine the hurt you have experienced, I can sympathize with you.

From,
Livi Kellogg

Dear Susan,
I read your book as part of a english class, i can’t express how sorry i am about your loss, as a teenager myself i can’t image the look on my mom’s face if i was taken, i\'m not her only child but i was her first, an it was only us for a long time, i can\'t relate to you as a mother but i do take care of my siblings 80% of my time and i can’t even go a full day without seeing them let alone losing them. This book made me realize there is no other love like a mothers, this book made me value the people in my life while they’re still here way more than i did. Sending love from Minnesota. -T

About your book My Stolen Son I feel like it’s a powerful story about Nick and his story, the book talks about every part of his story, how it happened, how you felt and how the jury was. Losing a child of your own is very hard, I\'m 17 and I obviously can’t fully understand, but losing a sister and seeing my parents go through that i have a little idea. Hearing the mental health part of your story was very hard but it also didn’t sugarcoat stuff you were 100% real with your emotions and that shows with his story and what happened it affected you in a very real way and sharing that is very hard. I loved reading this story as a class because it shows how fast life can change, I am very sorry for your loss and reading that he got justice for what happened made everyone smile.

I watched the film, for a second time. I watched it when it came out but didn\'t get to the ending until tonight. I never knew it was a true story.

I can\'t understand why. Such a petty amount of money for such a heinous crime. The fact that he was supposedly so rich and did that for 1200 bucks?? Blows my mind. I don\'t understand why the brother didn\'t turn them in? If he infact knew. I\'m so sorry for your loss your pain and your lack of justice. God rest his soul.
