Thank you for all of your wonderful information! I\'ve been quilting Hawaiian patterns for many years, on & off, and now I have to opportunity to teach the basics of Hawaiian quilting; history, patterns both traditional and unique student created, and the how to\'s to create a pillow or wall hanging. Hopefully I\'ll connect with some students through my love of sewing and quilting, and inspire them to pursue their interest. Thank you again.

Dear Elizabeth Root! One of the few regrets of my life is losing my box of Hawaiian Designin\' Quarterly magazines when my husband and I moved houses in 1985. I think of this so often. At a family reunion in Hawaii recently, I was telling my sons about this, and one of them asked if I could look you up to find any remaining copies. After all these years, I am dubious - but it is always possible! I remember the beautiful photographs, the interviews with island artisans, the recipes, and of course your designs. Mahalo for that labor of love. Best wishes, Jean

I visited Hawaii for three weeks in Jan/Feb and fell in love with Hawaiian quilts! I visited shops and museums,, bought fabric and patterns. Now I'm trying to get motivated and lose the intimidation of beginning my own Hawiian project. Great site! I'm looking forward to using the ecard part when it's ready!

I love pictures on all the pages. I love flowers & the Plumeria (I know this as Frangipani) and Hibiscus have a special place in my heart. We emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1970 and in March 1971, we moved to our new, purpose built house. A Frangipani (Plumeria) was one of the first trees my late Mother bought for the new house. The scent was exquisite especially on hot summer evenings. By 1974, & leaving the Plumeria behind, we were in the lower South Island of NZ and much to cold for Plumeria here. In 1980, I travelled to Auckland to join the Navy. With 3 other girls, I was picked up in the official transport and we travelled to the Auckland Railway Station, a lovely 1930's Art Deco building. As we drove into the driveway, I noticed the hedge of Hibiscus bushes. I suddenly realised " I'm in the South Pacific. " Everyone laughed at me as until then I did not equate the lower South Island as being part of the South Pacific. m I look forward to coming back & trying my hand at Hawaiian quilting Thank you
