I have been working on a research project to Interview Thyroid Cancer patients in United Kingdom. The purpose of this research is to better understand what causes the disease, how to prevent it, and how to improve treatment. It will be 15 to 20 minutes online survey where in data will kept confidential and only be used for research purposes. Please drop me an email if you would like participate in a clinical study to give your valuable opinions.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Ruth, would you mind e-mailing me your e-mail address so that I can send you a copy of my story. Your site was particularly helpful and inspirational to me when I was diagnosed and went through my treatments and I\'d just love to share the story of my RAI experience with you. Plus my wife and I have written an Iodine free recipe book following our experiences which I\'d also like to send you.
I hope that\'s possible because I don\'t know how to get these to you otherwise. Thanks again for your site which I keep coming back to even 3 years after my diagnosis. God bless Duncan

Took my 16 year old daughter to the Hematologist Oncologist and he confirmed that she DOES have Von Willebrands, which is a bleeding disorder. Not only is she always sick with a fever, sore throat, swollen lymph node, virus, tired, etc. she has started having her period every 2 weeks for a week. Now with the birth control pills and the rod of it in her arm her period has not come in about 4 weeks. She has to have blood work done every 3 weeks. Her pulminary function test revealed that she does NOT have asthma, but that there appears to be something pressing on her trachea which makes it difficult for her to draw a breath. One of the Lymphoma web sites that I visited yesterday said that this is a symptom of Lymphoma. Next week we go to an Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist. Just want an answer so we can fix this and get her on the mend, she starts her senior year of high school in a few weeks.

Well here it is 8 months later and my 16 year old daughter is still sick all the time. She has a chronic cough that will not go away and has taken to having her monthly every 2 weeks for atleast a week. She is anemic and tired all the time. Her cought sounds like she is drowning. She has been tested for Von Willebrands disease, the doc is not sure about the results. So she has the birth control implant in her arm and that has not worked so now on top of that she is on continuous birth control pills, no sugar pills for her, just start the new pack. And an appointment for a Pulminary Function Test as well as an appointment with a Hematologist Oncologist (my husbands own cancer doc). My gut feeling after reading all of the symptoms is that she has some form of lymphoma that did not show up when they did the biopsy of her neck mass/gland. I am praying for a correct diagnosis. Something is definately wrong, and not finding out so we can fix it is terrible for all concerned.

Very interesting read thank you. I found my lump last June and was told it was a nodule so there was not rush. Had Biopsy (bloody hurt!!!) in September and was operated on two weeks later to remove half as they still weren\'t sure.. They found a follecular carsenoma and then I had to wait for it to heal before they did it again to remove the second half. Just had the second op - Frankenstein twice- and they found a new cancer on the second half. Now waiting to see oncologist
Seems like Birmingham are more generous - I was in and out of hospital in less than 24 hours.

Thanks for sharing your story. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with Papilliary Thyroid cancer. Just like you this came as a huge shock. I was also due to fly from Australia 2 days later on a trip of a lifetime to USA. The trip was of course cancelled as surgery was needed. I am due to have total thyoidectomy next week. I am terrified that the cancer has spread however trying to remain positive. Thank you for such a comprehensive run down on what you experienced. I am so happy to hear that you have made a good recovery. Your story really helps others who are now facing what you already have and survived!

I have just had a month of scans and FNA biopsies on a growth on the front of my neck. Both the scan and FNA Results have come back OK But I am having the lump removed on 14th February as it is pressing on my windpipe and is uncomforable. I have read some of the feeds and although some mirror my experiences... the thought is there that it could still be a dodgy resutl as it seems a frew people have experienced a different outcome once the lump has been removed. PMA is required Ithink

Back in Sept. of 2012 my 16 year old daughter started complaining of her neck aching. She kept asking me if I thought maybe she could have slept wrong or if her spine could be out of joint. At the time she had a virus as well and was put on 10 days of penicillan, and still not feeling better a prescription of Zythromiacin. The doc said swollen glands. Finally I felt her neck and it felt hard as a board and huge on one side and soft on the other. Another call to the doc and he could not believe her neck "mass". He pulled out his tape measure and made me come over to look at the size of it. About 4-5" long and an inch plus wide. He ordered a CT scan with contrasting dye, but after 9 attemps and 4 different professionals, they were not able to get the dye started in her so did the test without it. The results came back...swollen tonsils...she had them removed several years ago and they did NOT grow back., and swollen "muscle" in her neck. Now 3 weeks later, still the low grade fever all the time and feeling so tired, she sleeps all the time. She was tested for mono and anemia early on. Okay there. But I am not happy with the ct results. The doc is sending my daughter to have a biopsy, but the earliest date we can get is for Dec 11th!! This is crazy, she is missing so much school and I am worried sick, as this is how I found my thyroid cancer 5 years ago. Hoping and praying for a sooner date and answers. We have been put on a cancellation list. Anyone else gone thru the same? Looking for answers.

My son is going through this at the moment. He has just stopped his medication in preparation for his radioactive iodine treatment. Unfortunately he is having trouble accepting that he can't eat everything at the moment. I was wondering if you had any advice on what I could give him to eat that would still be enjoyable. Any help you can give me on this would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
Roberta

Hi Ruth was good to read your story my cancer was 14 years ago now, and i'm still here going strong, it made me laugh when you said about feeling like Frankenstien, i can relate to that! Never met anyone who had the same thing before until i started my new job that met 2 men most unusual!
After my op i was left with a very baggy chin, like a woman of about 80, this upset me a lot as i was only 35, anyway i kept complaining and was given Liposuction so it was worth moaning,

Hi Ruth I have thyroid problems and was so scared of the worst case scenarios. Then i came across your site. I found your experiences so informative and inspiring. I am still fearful but you have armed me with knowledge which has given me a quiet confidence to cope with what lies ahead.
Thank you for your courage. I wish you and your family the best life.

Only just started so not much content yet, but it is growing, adding posts about what has happened to me in the past few years.
