Winterfest 2010 Sat. Nov. 27 Downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Downtown Cleveland Alliance is gearing up for Winterfest 2010 events Saturday, Nov. 27, including free horse-drawn carriage rides, the Guitar Hero Challenge, the Radio Disney Stage Show, live holiday concerts, pictures with Santa, ice sculpting and more.

The day of festivities culminates with the official lighting ceremony on Public Square at 6 p.m.

Events at Tower City begin at 10 a.m. The Old Stone Church on Public Square will have Christmas concerts at 4 and 5 p.m and post-fireworks; there will be a "Christmas Story" convention downtown; the historic Arcade will offer tours at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.; and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Here's a sampling of what happens Nov. 27.

1-5 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides in the plaza at 55 Public Square in front of John Q's Steakhouse. Carriage rides are on a first-come first-served basis.

2 p.m.: Visit the Cleveland Public Library for a free holiday musical concert, featuring the Andrew Venable Celebration Staff Chorus and other special presentations. Have some hot cocoa and cookies, too.


The PDThe city's Christmas tree was hoisted into place today. It will be lit for the holidays during Winterfest 2010 on Saturday, Nov. 27.
3-7 p.m.: Winterfest Village. There will be family-friendly activities, hot food and beverages, and shopping in the southwest quadrant of Public Square. Radio Disney will be on-site with holiday music and activities.

3-6 p.m.: Winterfest stage show and Radio Disney holiday concert. Radio Disney AM/1260 will host an on-stage show with games, dancing, karaoke and musical performances.

6-7:30 p.m.: Public Square lighting ceremony, concert and fireworks. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, City Council members and Santa flip the switch on 500,000 lights on the city's Christmas tree and around the square.

7:30-8:30 p.m.: Public after-party, Positively Cleveland Visitors Center at the Higbee Building. Get pictures with Santa, free refreshments and live music.

From 8 p.m. until midnight Saturday, the lobby at 200 Public Square will be transformed into a grand tasting room featuring 20 local wineries and breweries for the Winter Wine & Ale Fest. Tickets are $40 per person.
