ONTARIO AMATEUR BOXING HALL OF FAME
*The process has begun, and in five days, the first
fifty names have been nominated that covers a good
cross section of Ontario amateur boxing over the decades.
The 50 include some old names from long ago including
HORACE GWYNNE, SAMMY LUFTSPRING and GEORGE CHUVALO.
Names from ASIF DAR to WILLIE FEATHERSTONE. Also, some
boxing familirs: Baggio, Bland, Doiron, Nolan, Marsh, MacDonald,
Rannelli and the Summerhays families.
A few of the other names Nicky Furlano, Ian Clyde, Walter Henry,
Joe Sandulo, Ken Hamilton and Mark Simmonds.
THE 2012 RESULTS
After an intresting nomination and selection process, 18 have been selected to be the
core group of inductees. They represent many decades on boxing in Ontario, Canada and
in International amateur and professional boxing.
The selected ones are:
Asif Dar, Billy Irwin, Chris Johnson, Dennis Bradley, Egerton Marcus,
George Chuvalo, George Fraser, Horace Gwynne, Ian Clyde, Joe Sandulo,
Jerome "Hook" McComb, Lennox Lewis, Marc Leduc, Mark Simmons,
Michael Strange, Nicky Furlano, Shawn O'Sullivan and Walter Henry.
Four individuals were involved in the selection process with a wide range of experience in
actual boing and understanding of the Ontario and Canadian history. The 32 that did not
make this first selection will be considered along with other potential nominees.
Nominations for 2013 is an open policy, so anyone may nominate anyone at any time
on this or any of the other sites.
