THE RIGHT STUFF
There are many wide paths to failure in both amateur an professional boxing.
But, there are very few narrow paths to SUCCESS. The ultimate test of success
may not be the volume of the title fights, or the multi-belts and medals that one poses with for the latest photo op.but the lasting legacy of an image as the
PEOPLE'S CHAMPION decades after the final bell rings in boxing competition.
In Canadian amateur boxing there have been many multi-term champions,
and in professional boxing there have been some world champions and many Canadian champions.
We could all cobble together a quick list of our best boxers, greatest boxers
and come up with a list of different names. But, looking back to the greats like Dixon, Langford or Jimmy McLarnin, there is one name that stands high on the list of People's Champion in Canada and that one name is GEORGE CHUVALO.
So, the question that we may ask is WHY?
Considering the combined amateur and profession experience, four other names that belong on that special list would be:
ART HAFEY, EDDIE HADDAD, IAN CLYDE and SCOTTY OLSON.
