Six groups in Tennessee to lose their recognition as state tribes

Six groups in Tennessee to lose their recognition as state tribes
    Thursday, September 2, 2010

Six groups in Tennessee will lose their state recognized status as part of a lawsuit that was filed by a lobbyist who works for the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.

The Tennessee Commission of Indian Affairs is no longer functioning as a state agency. But before it went defunct, the panel recognized six groups that claimed Cherokee, Creek and other heritage.

Lobbyist Mark Greene filed suit and said the commission violated the state's open meetings law. The state attorney general agreed and reached a settlement that's being finalized today, The Tennessean reported.

    Re: A new record?

For the shortest time ever spent as a "state-recognized" tribe?

    Re: A new record?

That's on top of their record for deceptive practices and outright violation of state (sunshine) law!!!

    they can spell "collusion"

COLLUSION defined: A secret agreement between two or more parties for a fraudulent, illegal, or deceitful purpose.

and i wonder when it stopped being a crime! No mention of it - yet - in the 'legal' proceedings ...

    "
Cooper's office filed an answer to the suit last week. In it, state
officials acknowledged that Indian Affairs commissioners failed to
disclose publicly in advance that members intended to discuss and
approve the six groups' applications. Officials also noted
commissioners discussed the matters before the meeting."

yup, sounds like a crime was committed, imho ... but i'z no AG or regular lawyer.

    Re: they can spell "collusion"

Bahahahaha ... Tammera wouldn't do that! She knows State statutes better than the State. Just ask her! Musta been some other Indian commission. :X
