Re: comments by Rev. Joseph Lowery

I'm assuming the man on the radio was white, but he totally misremembered the words and interpreted it as a racist statement--against white people. I'm sure there are plenty out there who heard it all wrong and there will probably be lots of buzz around the internet for awhile.

Speaking of internet rumors... I was glad to see Ohama used the Lincoln Bible for swearing in--not the Koran as was all over the 'net!

Re: "Ohama used the Lincoln Bible for swearing in"

BUH! not the Koran as was all over the 'net! It's just amazing what folks can't / won't / don't want to know. On WATE, there was a question about Obama's 'promise of change' and whether people believed he could/would fulfill that promise. Some comments were about Obama being a Muslim, not using his middle name when being sworn in, not being a citizen, etc.. SOSDD. Some comments were even about Obama making this country "socialist". LOLOL Medicaid, Medicare, welfare, billion-dollar bailouts with at least half interest in the companies, up to an including eminent domain aren't enough socialism to convince those who still believe the US is a democracy?! Not to mention, all that was happening Looooong before Obama even thought of tossing his hat in the ring for presidency.

Oh, and then there's a poll about racism and the civil rights movement on the main page of the website for WREG in Memphis. Memphis!: http://www.wreg.com/Global/category.asp?C=5491#poll79834

Do you think the Civil Rights movement as we know it is over?
Thank you for participating in our poll. Here are the results so far.
Yes, we've made huge strides and need to realize that 69%
No, there is still so much left to do 31%

    (my vote was "NO")

Found the Poll when looking for the article from a "news bulletin" that said:

    http://www.wreg.com/Global/story.asp?s=9711193

LOCAL MINISTER SAYS CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IS OVER

Have you heard about Richard Ransom's story from last night. Richard talked with Rev. Bill Atkins of Greater Imani Church who says there has been too much focus on race in the election of Barack Obama and that he's tired of black people making excuses. Dr. Atkins also told Richard the civil rights movement is over and no longer needed. Watch the whole report in the video player on our homepage

"OVER"?!!! Not by a long ****ed shot!! A-freakin'-mazing someone even had to ask!!!

    Last paragraph of the article:

The head of the Memphis N-A-A-C-P chapter says as long as there is anyone of any race or sex is discriminated against, the Civil Rights Movement continues.

    EXACTLY!!

Re: Re: "Ohama used the Lincoln Bible for swearing in"

And apparently, there is talk of nationalizing some of the largest banks--like mine. I wonder if that would be better for me since interest rates, etc. seem to be ever rising.

New conspiracy theory -- I knew it was coming

My daughter's bf listens to Neil Bortz and the latest rumor about Obama is-- That the Chief Justice flubbed the Oath of Office on purpose so that Obama could retake the oath using the Koran. So, tell me, why would one of the most republican of the justices be complicant with such a plan? Those people with their theories make no sense at all!
