Seeking Parents of Leon Cowen

To whom it may concern,

My name is Tom Lowe. I am the grand nephew of Pilot Officer Leonard W. O'Hara who flew with 15 Squadron during WWII. He and his crew were shot down on Sept. 16/17, 1942. All were killed. Leonard is memorialized on the walls at Runnymede. Through information I was able to gather from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission one of Leonard's crew members was Sgt. Leon Cowen, #528664. They list his parents as Mark and Beatrice Cowen of Sheffield. Leon is buried @ Amersterdam New Eastern Cemetery in the Netherlands.

I am seeking any information you may be able to gather about the Cowen family. Leonard's sister, Harriett (my 90 year old grandmother), and I are working on a family history book and are hoping to locate photographs, letters or any information about the crew and its time together with 15 squadron. The rest of the crew consist of the following:

Kenneth Forster, son of Harold Cawthorne Forster and Olive Forster of Pontefract, Yorkshire

Robert Edwin Evans, son of Edward James Evans and Ada Lavina Evans of North Finchley, Middlesex

Ronald John Mumford, son of Percy Sterndale Mumford and Ada Mumford of Louth, Linconlnshire

Thomas Clarence Field Orr, son of Thomas George and Eva Beryl Orr, of Pietermaritzburg, Natal, S. Africa

Howard Edward Johnson, son of Elbert Zenith Johnson of Clawson, Michigan, USA

Any information and/or suggestions in how to trace surviving family members would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Tom Lowe
