properties in cookham
Hi everyone, my sister is considering buying a preoperty on cookham, and I was wondering whether the area is prone to flooding?, and if so what measures are being put in to preventing flooding in the area. Also how risky is it to buy near the river, say near the Ferry Inn? |

Yes the area is prone to flooding. The measures to reduce flooding have already been put in and it will still flood. The other side of the river from the Ferry is usually underwater during flooding. |

You could try Cookham Rise where there are lots of nice new homes thanks to our neighbourhood developer, Michael Shanly. No danger of flooding either, not at least until they concrete over the whole place....

Or tell her not to bother and move somewhere that isn't blighted by a large number of backward thinking, forever complaining residents who would happily see the place stuck in the 1950's. |

I wouldn't buy along the towpath Red Tiger. However, there's masses of areas of Cookham that have never flooded and never will. There's a huge flood relief scheme put in relatively recently ......do some research and check it out. But we certainly had no flooding on the moor this year. I think you can safely say the 5,500 (approx) who live in Cookham have never had their homes washed away as some stricken areas of the country. |

If you look at the Housing and Development Report of the Cookham Plan there is a chapter on Flooding in Cookham and a chart of the flood plain. http://cookham.com/cookhamplannew/housinganddevelopment/7flooding.htm |

The area surrounding the church in Cookham, and all the houses immediately next to it have never flooded - otherwise the graveyard wouldnt be there anymore! The flood plain recently changed to include this part of Cookham but in recent heavy rains and when many other areas of the river burst their banks this part stayed unaffected. |
