Parish Councillors want residents to shut up

Here is the report from the Marlow Free Press of last week's Council Meeting.

"Cookham Parish Council this week voted to "withdraw" the plan, first published last month.

Villagers had hoped to get answers at next week's long awaited AGM at Pinder Hall which is dedicated to discussing it. However, the vote means that councillors will not answer questions until they have all read the full proposals.

Cllr John Stretton said the council had not had the chance to study it in detail.

He said: " This is not the right time to get the public involved, it's not achieving anything. We have to stop this business of people interfering."

The agenda for the meeting had listed a proposition "to withdraw the main proposal document for the Cookham plan".

It was amended "to withdraw the main proposal document for the Cookham plan until Cookham Parish council has discussed it." The council voted in favour of this.

Councillors agreed that the positive parts of the plan had been totally overshadowed by this one issue.

Chairman Pat Woodbridge said: " The whole thing has been hijacked by the people in Poundfield." "

Even more reason to turn up on Tuesday 11th

RU Sure that this is what they said? I had a plan posted through my front door, at the back it said it was from the Parish council. I am sure that the councillors would want peoples feedback, otherwisse they would not have sent it. If you ask me the paper must have got it wrong.

Its on the Bucks Free press website AND in yesterday's paper the Marlow Free Press.

The words are quotes...I don't think they'd print it if the councillors hadn't said it...their not that stupid as to make stuff up completly

Re: Parish Councillors want residents to shut up

I wouldn't have thought that the paper would publish things that weren't said either - after all they are legally liable for what is written.

And as for the bit about hijacked by the people that live in Poundfield (not in quotation marks you'll not in case i have misquoted from memory) there are a lot of people who do not live in Poundfield who are opposed to the new road.

I think the Councillors need to get back in touch with the people of Cookham and get their heads out of the little cloud they seem to have them in.

Remember Councillors - we voted you in - we can also vote for someone else next time . . . You can't afford to alienate your electorate by making disparaging remarks about them.

It does seem surprising that The Plan has not been prioritised for study and discussion by the Parish Council in advance of the Pinder Hall Meeting - what matters of greater importance have required their focus in recent weeks ?

Re: Parish Councillors want residents to shut up

Don't be put off by the press report, which is just rather misleading - it's not true that they want Cookham residents to shut up.

I've heard on good authority that the Parish Council WANT to hear everyone's views on the Plan at the AGM (tomorrow, Tuesday 11th at Pinder Hall, 7.30pm). How else can they find out exactly how strongly everyone feels and then be able to get on with their job of dealing with the problem? Cookham is relying on them to get this mess sorted out.

It is REALLY IMPORTANT that EVERYONE should attend who wants to address Poundfield and the other controversial issues so that they can ask questions and express their feelings. What else is the Parish Council AGM for?

Someone told me that the Parish Council has still not been given the whole, fully completed 50 page Cookham Plan proposal by the Plan's steering committee, which is not their fault, so what is going on?

This was supposed to be with the Council before their February 5th meeting but we heard there that Richard Simmonds, who was meant to deliver it, was stuck in traffic. (Five weeks is some traffic jam, Richard - perhaps it's Cookham Dean which needs the gyratory ring road?)
