Speed Indicator on Lower Road

Appeared unannounced on Lower Road last week just past the station.

Flashing up the speed of cars as they drove by but showing the wrong speeds - under by about 4 mph when I went by. Looks pretty ramshackle and not working last night.

Anyone know who, why etc?

Re: Speed Indicator on Lower Road

Dunno what the point of those stupid things is?
Just more clutter on the street and no doubt more council tax spent on it....

Oh wow a flashing sign that tells you your speed.... isn't that what the speedo in the car is for?

Re: Speed Indicator on Lower Road

I think it's a good idea. It catches your attention more than your speedo does, and might prevent a few people from using the little fall from the tracks down the hill to push them up to a higher speed. Some seem to think it's launching pad for a race down to the 40 zone.

Re: Speed Indicator on Lower Road

Its at the wrong end of Lower Rd for a start!
Seems like people generally tend to drive a bit slower thru the shops and rail crossing...but get up to pretty high speeds at the Whyteladies end of Lower Rd!

It must be doing the rounds. I now remember there was one on Sutton Road a few weeks back. Likely the same one.

I assume it must collate information as I've seen a few of these dotted around Maidenhead recently including Courthouse Road and Lower Cookham Road. Either that or it is simply a reminder to adhere to the speed limit.

Re: Speed Indicator on Lower Road

It's a good idea having it in various places where we need to be reminded just how fast we often go without realising it.

Just like speed humps, it soon slows you down.
