Passenger SS Australis 1974

Travelled Southampton to Autralia in 1974. Left UK on the 12th June 1974 and arrived Sydney 11th July. The Australis bumped into the HMAS Melbourne while docking at Wooloomooloo. Brought my beautiful wife Valerie home to Australia to meet her in-laws. Val was a $75 tourist. Also brought our new daughter, Debra home. Great ship and a gret voyage. Southampton to Canary Islands to Capetown to Fremantle. Think there was a seamans strike in W.A. at the time.

Re: Passenger SS Australis 1974

We too were on this voyage (Parents & brother) I was 12 he was 8.
For us it was the biggest adventure ever, we were in seperate cabins from our parents (sports deck starboard) we had big picture windows & was close to the rear door (quiots area). Remember going around the cape with very bad weather, the bank of lights fell above the indoor pool. Meals were somewhat different, I remember tongue was served regularly & the baked alaska nights when all the lights went out & the waiter had to weave his way to the table. If I am right there was an ind dispute at capetown (tugs) & we had to stay for around 3 days.
we disembarked at Melbourne & lived in Adelaide for 2 years before returning to the UK. I now live in Greece not far from the Chandris lines office.

Good memories.
