american star

Just come back from Feurteventura and must say the trip to see the american star was the highlight of the holiday for me. I must say i found it very sad to see a ship of such beauty lying there to face the elements. When so much time and money is spent on documenting and visiting ships like the titanic it makes me wonder why no one has thought (or tried) to salvage her, a ship with her history should be preserved for future generations to learn about. I my self am only in my late twenties and found the ship to be one of the most awesome sights i have ever seen and have found the task of finding out information on her to be very interesting. I think anyone taking a trip to Fuerteventura should take time to go and visit her final resting place.

Re: american star

I have just seen the american star - australis - whatever- She is still inspiring - despite being stripped and broken in half - what dignity and pathos she still exudes. corruption and greed may have been her undoing. but she rises above their greed.God bless her and all who sailed in her.

Hi Simon,

I am just wondering if you use to work in Darwin for ACE? If so it is me Alison.lol I came over on this ship in 1978 from the UK, she was then the "Australis". I have just started looking up this information for myself as I am planning my next Holiday/dive trip and this would just be the ultimate for me.

I never saw the documentary you were talking about, but I can not belive that this fantastic ship was left to perish and will try and get a copy.

If this is you.lol How uncanny, hope life is treating you good? I Still keep in contact with Dennis and Darren is coming to Perth on the 1st of March.

If this is not Simon from Darwin, any other information you can provide would be fantastic.

Thanking you in advance
Alison
