Sydney-uk May 1969
I was a passenger on Australis from Sydney to Southampton and would love to hear from anyone who was on the ship at the time. We called at Auckland, Suva, Acapulco, Panama and Miami. Ship departed Circular Quay, Sydney in May 1969. |

Hi Chris, Possible connection, I was Master at Arms on the Australis during 1969, but exactly which voyages I cannot recall. I have some photos on the Australis website so if you recognise any of them, get in touch. Best regards. Pete Evans. |

Peter-is the other Master of Arms next to you in the photo Manfred Thamm? I was the younger of the 2 ship's photographers on the Australis for one around the world trip in 1969-Southampton to Southampton-this was the voyage where the US coastguard gave us the third degree in either San Francisco or LA when they found that many of the lifeboat covers were nailed on-not tied with rope and a lifeboat malfunctioned when being lowered from the davit during their inspection. We were also fined in Capetown for causing an oil slick and left in the middle of the night probably to make the belching black smoke invisible. This was also the voyage outbound when we hit the 50ft-60ft waves crossing the Indian Ocean-Ikigamis took us very far south to keep heading into the weather and we actually had ice on the decks-all at 18 knots and rocking from side to side-Steve F
