May is motorcycle awareness month and what better way to promote safety and awareness then to host one of the Country's top custom bike builders? For the first time ever the Arlen Ness Road-Show is coming to the Ohio Valley and setting up shop at the Motorcyclist Memorial in Hopedale Ohio. Arlen Ness Customs operate out of California and is one of the largest custom parts manufacturer for motorcycles in the U.S. They will be bringing along several of Arlen's custom built motorcycles for the public to view and purchase. The Roadshow as they call it , is eye candy for anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship and will consist of custom built motorcycles, parts, and a new clothing line.
The Roadshow decided to stop at The Hopedale bike rally after learning of the Motorcyclist Memorial Wall. This one of a kind memorial for bikers got its start late in 1992 when a group of dedicated motorcyclist conceived the idea of a monument for lost bikers. This dream slowly grew into reality with the formation of the Motorcyclist Memorial Foundation.
Est. December 16, 1993, this foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the permanent memory of brothers and sisters lost.
The foundation members are charged with the care, upkeep, improvements, and expansion of the memorial site, and to annually sponsor a college scholarship fund to benefit local high school students who wish to further their education.
The motorcyclist memorial is located on a grassy knoll near Hopedale Ohio on a site provided by the Hopedale American Legion Post 682.
Visitors are welcome seven days a week throughout the year.
Every Memorial Day Weekend the foundation holds a re-dedication of the memorial in which all the names on the wall are read followed by a releasing of white doves, the playing of taps , and a 21 gun salute by the American Legion .
This years event will take place May 23-25 and a donation of $10 per person will be accepted at the gate which covers your camping and shower house use. Bands, vendors, and a biker rodeo are just some of the events going on over the Holiday weekend.
