Message:   correction

The story was incorrect in saying that witnesses said that helmets reduce crashes. The testimony before the Senate subcommittee should have said that witnesses said helmets reduce fatalities. We will run a correction to that effect in Tuesday's Packet. The witnesses included:
• Nicole Nathan, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
• John Hill, federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
• Mark Rosenker, chair of NTSB

I'm not going to get into a debate about whether or not helmets should be mandated. I do invite anyone who wants to let their voice be heard in the paper, to please write a letter to the editor at: letters@islandpacket.com.

Thanks.

Sally Mahan
