we may disagree on whether helmet laws are a good idea, but the fact that helmets attach to our bodies and seat belts don't is not a constitutional distinction.

Whether we like helmet laws or not, the distinction helmet laws make between requiring motorcyclists to wear them, and instead requiring car drivers to wear seat belts, while exempting motorcyclists from seat belts, is "reasonably related" to a "legitimate" government interest, and that makes helmet laws constitutional.

"Constitutional" doesn't mean smart, or best. It just means the law is reasonably related to a legitimate state interest.
