Sure ITS is in the future, conferences that were in prosses from the 1980's-through today: We just may be sitting behind the eight ball if we don't start getting involved now!!! The distraction deterants, just might be more ditractions for the driver of tomorrow!! As noted by the mention of Navigation and Information Centers In cars below, funny how things don't change, and internationally too!
Just my two cents, from being in the auto industry as long as this shits been going on.

The IEE, which is the British counterpart to the IEEE, periodically holds colloquia/seminars on topics dealing with ITS. The proceedings are published as a Digest series. This seminar focuses on ITS system architecture.

Title varies. Each year, a specific focus is adopted for the symposium. Advances in automotive technologies led to a change in the format of the symposium such that by 1991, five simultaneous dedicated conferences were held, with a specific one dedicated to “Road Transport Informatics.” The 2001 Conference reflects a name change to the “Automotive and Transportation Technology, Congress & Exhibition.”

Considered to be the foremost gathering of academia, government, and industry in the U.S. as it relates to Intelligent Transportation Systems. Recent proceedings available on CD ROM, with papers accessible by title, session, author, or full text.
