To: MRF,
Given all of the foregoing, it would be useful also if MRF would make plain that illegal immigration is NOT a part of its biker rights platform so that its officers, directors, lobbyists and membership will have the benefit of an official policy. Such a policy would avoid the specter that officials of the organization may take it upon themselves to insert their personal views on this subject when approaching legislators on legitimate bikers rights and motorcyclist safety issues. It would also enhance MRF's standing as a legitimate motorcyclist safety and bikers rights organization.
While we are at it, Bruce and I issued an Open Letter to MSF, MRF and AAA some time ago asking each organization to take a position on comprehensive cell phone legislation. I have not seen a response to our Open Letter, or any other official statement from MRF coming out in favor of comprehensive cell phone legislation, or for handheld legislation or against cell phone legislation, for that matter. If you will do the former, you will take a stand beneficial to motorcyclist safety, unlike this emotional and faulty statistical argument floated by Ms. Hodges for "motorcyclist safety immigration reform." If you take a position for handheld legislation you will permit us to respectfully criticize it with all the good statistical literature, and hopefully change your position to one embracing comprehensive cell phone legislation. If you take a position against cell phone legislation, then we will at least know where you stand, and we will be better able to assess the credibility, or lack thereof, of your more controversial statistical arguments as the immigration reform argument urged by Ms. Hodges in the name of "motorcyclist safety."
