Hey Frank,

Sorry to hear about your accident, Bro, but I stand behind what I said.

To suggest that invoking the 14th Amendment might subject us to wearing seat belts on our bikes is a spurious argument. Helmets and seatbelts are apples and oranges. The difference is that helmets affix an object to our body (head), so their protection is the same, regardless of where our body is, or what it is doing. Seatbelts, on the other hand, affix our body to an object. The belt in and of itself offers no protection whatsoever, and may instead assure quite the opposite. The example you give is a perfect case in point:

"I'm real glad I wasn't strapped to my bike during my recent crash -- my spine would have been snapped like my windscreen."

Get better!

Bruce

Let's not go overboard -- "discrimination" is OK as long as there's a reasonable basis for it --

helmets don't reduce car fatalities,

just as seat belts don't reduce motorcycle fatalities.

In fact, I'm real glad I wasn't strapped to my bike during my recent crash -- my spine would have been snapped like my windscreen. If your position were adopted, seat belts would be mandatory for motorcycles, to avoid "discriminating" against car drivers.
