Classic steering rattle

Hello,

Recently found my classic vogues' steering has begun to rattle at around 70mph, it can fade then return intemittently.

Any suggestions - could it be the front tyres need to be re-balanced?

regards,

Re: Classic steering rattle

If by 'rattle' you mean steering wheel shake at that speed them checking wheel balance is a good starting point.
Then steering & suspension components for wear and/or excess play including steering damper and swivel bearing pre-load. All are common causes of odd RR steering.

Re: Classic steering rattle

Thanks that would make sense.

The steering feels slightly lighter also during typical drive, either that or I convinced myself it feels different.

Would this be wear in the column and is it expensive to fix ?

MOT next month.

I don't think its going to be the UJ's in the steering column unless they have excess play.
Stiffness is the most common problem with them, especially after pressure washing the engine bay.

Re: Classic steering rattle

Which BTW is NOT a particularly good idea as water can be forced into all sorts of problem causing areas.
