93 classic vogue gearbox noise
Hi all, The gearbox has developed a clanking noise at idle if you raise the revs even just to around 900rpm it stops. Anybody have an idea what it could be. Regds AndyM |

If average mileage or above for the year most likely worn drive chain (BW box is chain drive)Often manifests as a banging under acceleration which is the chain jumping over the sprockets. Have a word with www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk |

Thanks for the reply. Ashcroft replaced the transfer box and viscous coupling a few years ago the noise is coming from the front of the gearbox. I may need to pay them a visit to replace the gearbox just wondered if a less expensive solution could be found.I also have moved to Dorset now a good 100 mile from them in Luton. Regds AndyM |

Is it an auto, if so, most likely flex plate, get it fixed pronto because it will break the oil pump drive if you keep using it. I have a number of them if you get stuck for one. |

You have to either remove the gearbox or the engine. The flex plate is a circular disc connected in the centre to the crankshaft and at the outer edge by 4 bolts to the Torque Converter. Can I suggest you give Ashcroft a ring as you have dealt with them before & ask their advice. |

Update, Had the gearbox taken out and checked at the local garage that does LandRovers as he said it was the flex plate aswell. The flex plate was perfect so they are getting a gearbox specialist they use for those jobs to check. Anyone with any ideas as to what it could be? Regards AndyM |
