Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
I have owned a Range Rover 1996 P38 4.0ltr now for 5 weeks with low miles on the clock,I have covered 600 miles with no problems and everything working well. I decided to have it converted to LPG and the work was carried out by Surrey Gas which took 3 days to fit. They delivered the car back to me and to my horror now have no suspension and no ABS system. When I start the car the light come on the dashboard ABS fault and Air Suspension fault. As I say everything was fine until the LPG was fitted any ideas ??

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
Take it back & get them to do the job properly. If they don't want to then you need to take legal advice.

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
Thank you for your reply, I would be glad to send it back, but they state they have ten years carrying out conversions so this mistake should not have been made. If I did return it they might say 'we have found the problem and fixed it here is a bill for another two hundred pounds. I have booked it in today to a main agents for them to place it on their machine to see what the problem is at a cost of forty five pounds then I will have it repaired and send Surrey Gas the bill, that if it id their fault.

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
I have now had the report from Guy Salmon main agents stating that their computer has found the fault on the EAS suspension to be on the right hand rear (where the gas pipes are fitted) but the ABS system will not talk to them, any ideas.

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
Guess who the converters will now claim damaged the system?
You will need a written report from whoever fixes it to say that the damage was caused by whatever the converters did. You will then have to try & sue them.
Suggest you contact Trading Standards for advice.

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
Air suspension is always a delicate subject.
As your car was indeed in good working order, and the EAs has reported a fault in the rear sensor, that suggests to me that when they jacked up your car to fit the pipe work underneath, they NEVER locked the suspension out, There is a peice in your handbook which will tell you how to correctly do this, its in the section about changing wheels/jacking up I think you will find.
If they had jacked it up with the suspension locked out then the other possible is they have damaged the height sensor etc, possibly an air bag. All of which is costly to repair/replace.
The EAS and the ECU are very delicate peices of machinery and keep the car running correctly, they can also re-learn faults etc, plus refuse to talk to each other, if one shows a major fault such as EAS not raising etc.
I suggest you confront the company that fitted the LGP, with the diagnostic report from Guy Salmon and see what they have to say, next stop is CAB! (Citizen Advice Bureau).

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
After all this time I have now had the car repaired by a great garage R.G.B Land Rover & Range Rover Services in Chelmsford area 07831422138. It took their electrician 4 days to find the problem caused by Surrey Gas. Surrey Gas had drilled through the bulkhead to fit a bracket and they had drilled into the main wiring harness shorting out the ABS system completely and shorting out the main ECU unit. I collect the car on Monday and have to pay a £1200 bill, as they had to remove the dashboard repair the harness, replace both ECU units and both rear height valves what a nightmare. Phones Andy @ Surrey Gass and he denies everything, we shall meet in County Court and I shall contact the Gass people he is an agent for and let them know all my problems.

Re: Suspension & ABS problem after LPG conversion
All is working fine so far but no thanks to Andy Richardson @ Surrey Autogas through his fault I have to date: wiring harness replaced on left side, front & rear height sensors, Front EAS air bags, ABS ecu, EAS ecu, plus all the labour total I have spent due to this idiot £1200 + I have sent him letters which he says have not been delivered although sent recorded, asked him for his home address to make sure he does get them but refuses ??? very seldom at his works??? DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH YOUR VEHICLE
I have given him 7 days to reply to my letters, guess what !!! now to Trading Standards & The Courts, I will not let it rest.
If you are thinking of a LPG conversion contact Autogas Worldwide Ltd on 01633894070 they will give you a local agent and they are good.
