V8 EFI

Good evening,

RR Classic EFI 3.9 V8 AUTO -

Noticed today when I stood on the pedal after a few minutes of driving, nothing happened as in, car didn't pull atall - was in 3rd gear trying to use kick down to accelerate, so im assuming gears didn't mesh.

is this a usual characteristic.

Not noticed this before, car hadn't been driven since monday evening?

How often should they be serviced?

Thanks,
paintman

Re: V8 EFI

Will it kickdown at all?
Common causes would be trying to kickdown at too high a road speed, kickdown cable broken or out of adjustment.
Does the gearbox perform correctly apart from that and can you downshift by manual selection?

Fault detection on autoboxes usually requires pressure checks to be carried out & unless you have the appropriate kit it isn't a DIY job.

Many autobox problems can be solved by a fluid & filter change, but there is a post on www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk which also points out that they get a lot of faults reported after people have done routine fluid/filter change so there is a question as to whether it is a good idea. However if your box is playing up then you have little to lose.

Re: V8 EFI

Was just this one occasion - thought it was quite perculiar. Kickdown worked afterwards fine.

Im assuming it was because the car hadn't been run for week.
