RR Classic Front Fogs

RR Classic 91' vogue.

Decided to investigate my front fog guards which do not illuminate through switch panel (bulbs both deffinately work tested with lab power supply).

Noticed all other 5 switches on configuration panel illuminate orange(from green)when pressed apart from front fogs which remain green. Removed switch and noticed there appears to be wires and small bulb missing, explaning the non-orange glow state.

Can anyone help and cast their minds back to the early 1990's - were the front fogs "optional" and non-factory fit?

I am positive there are missing wires but cannot think why this would be; is this a large task to rewire?

many thanks,
paintman

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

Put your headlamps on on main beam.Do the 'fog lamps' come on? Then go off on dipped beam?
If they do they're auxiliary driving lamps not fog lights.

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

Would main beam refer to 2 forward clicks on padel or pushing the main lever forwards for full beam.

I'll investigate though im positive there are no power cables from switch.

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

Turn your headlights on.
Select main beam. Leave it on.
Operate the fog guard switch & see what happens.

Why can't we mod the posts!!!!!!!

Forward for full beam (aka main beam!)

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

Excellent help - They're indeed what you termed auxiliary which i know means supporting - came on with full beam.

So what good are these then - we're never supposed to drive on full beam so they'l never be used.

Can i adjust to work on dipped ?

thanks again,
Mr P

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

Am i right in saying they're pointless or am I missing a use for them?

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

If properly set, they can be helpful when driving at night out in the country to supplement the main beam glowworms that LR fit as standard.
Apart from that they are fairly useless.
Minw are usually permanently turned off at the switch.
I wouldn't try & wire them in to work on dipped as it is easy to forget they are on. Fog lights on in conditions that don't require them is a pet hate!

As for the rear fog light, you may find it goes off when you activate main beam but is on when on dipped beam. I initially thought it was a fault on mine, but it isn't. Just a LR quirk.

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

haha, it is true pet hate material.

Thanks for your help on the subject - i'll take it out in the country and test them out at some point.

regards,
Matt

Re: RR Classic Front Fogs

Paintman - many thanks for that. Have had the same "problem" with my "fogs". Just wish I'd read this before spending too long under the car in the rain checking bulbs / wires / relays etc!
