Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
We have also pencilled in friendlies at Shifnal Town, Cradley Town, Stourport Swifts and Quorn and are looking for maybe one or two more. Dates for these will be confirmed shortly!

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
After the way Cradley rip us off every year we should tell them where to stick their friendly.

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
I agree completely. Why do we keep going back to Cradley year after year when they continually charge full prices for friendlies. Personally, I agree with the above comment - I'd tell them to get stuffed.
By the way, the weather in Savannah, Georgia today is amazing!

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
would have liked to see some friedlies against teams at our level or above as against this kind of opposition it's meaningless, can't see logic ?

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
Got to keep up to date with what's going on over there!
Anyhow, serves me right, it's been persisting down all afternoon!
Agree with the last comment - Willenhall and Quorn are worthwhile games, maybe have one game against an MFA side to get us started (by which I mean Shifnal rather than Graspley) but we could do with a couple of games against an NPL Premier side - Hednesford or Telford perhaps especially if the former may not be transferred across.

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
Trouble is, as we all know, unless we can use another ground (ie Stourport some years back), why would Telford et al want to play us when they can attract more lucrative games.
Having said that, Cradley is a bit of a no brainer, we will learn nothing there, even if we lose.

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
Just wondering if, apart from the Dudley Town mid-season friendly of a few years back, we have ever had a home friendly? If so, was it pre-season?
I was told we were going to Wombourne as well!

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
I take the point about other teams being able to arrange more lucrative games but I'd have thought games against SLM or NPL1 teams should be the minimum, a la the Willenhall and Quorn games mentioned earlier. Other than one game to blow the cobwebs out games against teams from the MFA or lower are pointless.

Didn't even know Wombourne had a team! Oh well, almost a home game for me

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
I'd argue that practice is practice. Within reason it doesn't matter at what the opposition is.
Certainly agree that we are disadvantaged by not being able to offer home friendlies and thus attract "big" clubs.
Perhaps we shouldn't moan and recognise that to some of the teams listed we are the "big" club!

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
Console yourself that it's not against Oldbury and Causeway (or Halesowen for that matter) as well!
Hopefully there will be a team sheet/programme for the Willenhall friendly so i'll be going to that, all being well.

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
We need games that are a challenge and not too easy - because we are in for some tough ones next season and we don't want to be caught on the hop and find ourselves playing catch-up too early on.

Would you be happy with 18th then?
How many points needed to stay up?

I'll be more than happy with 18th.
47 points were required for this position in the season just finished.

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
Is it feasible? There are no Berkhamsteds and Malverns in the Premier to guarantee safety! I think Evesham will be comfortably mid-table question is are Oxford City and Farnborough good enough to stay up.

Farnborough have spent a bit of money I hear. Stourboy, could you perhaps be a little more optimistic for once? If not, let the rest of us wallow in the glory for a little longer

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
I reckon our last friendly should be away at Redditch.
We played them twice last season, after the first game we won 9 on the trot, after the second we won 11 on the trot, both sequences followed sticky patches.

Re: Pre-season friendlies 2008
Hi there, with regards to both Oxford City and Farnborough stayinh up. I was at Oxford City last year for some time along with Newport for a bit who embarrassingly got themselves relegated. Farnborough definetly have the money, the stadium and more importantly the squad to..in my opinion be a mid table team having played them 3times. Oxford City im not so sure, they will struggle. I have also played for Banbury United in the prem, Does anybody know when training starts so i can go down???
